A social welfare project of STEEL AUTHORITY OF INDIA EMPLOYEES’ COOPERATIVE CREDIT SOCIETY LIMITED
The idea of setting up the Ispat Cooperative Hospital in a rural area was first conceptualized in 2006 as a social welfare activity of the Society and the same was included in Society’s vision document titled ‘Vision 2012’ which was adopted in its 39th Annual General Meeting. The hospital shall provide medical care of the highest quality to all segments of the rural population mainly for the downtrodden at minimum cost.
The Project
In the first phase of the project, a 46,000 sq.ft Hospital Building, is under construction to accommodate 100 beds for indoor patients having male, female and children wards.
The hospital will offer services in the disciplines of General Medicine, Cardiology, General Surgery, Endoscopy, Gynaecology, Paediatrics, ENT etc. and shall be equipped with advanced and latest equipments for its Pathological laboratory, Sonography and X-ray departments and two modern fully equipped operation theatres and Out-Patients’ department.
24 Hours ambulance services shall be available on call to link far off villages.
We also have a plan to introduce medicare on wheels with a fully equipped mobile van with Physicians and paramedical staff and required medicines to visit various villages to run disease prevention, control and screening programmes.
We have decided to cover the people, belonging to ‘below poverty line’ and working in the unorganized sector having meager income, with a health insurance scheme also.
In the 2nd phase we shall convert this Hospital into a 120-bedded hospital within 2 years time from the date of inauguration of the hospital.
Finance
The cost of the land, building and equipments for the 1st phase of the project which will be borne by the benevolent fund of the Society. The property of the hospital shall belong to the Society and not to any individual. Thus, a Social Property is being created by the SAIL Employees Cooperative Credit Society to serve the people.
Society shall also explore to get the finance/grant from other organizations like SAIL, NABARD, WB State Cooperative Bank Ltd. Etc.
A strong Social Charity Fund shall also be created by accepting grants/donations from various organizations to stand by the poor people with subsidized medical facilities.
Management
The hospital shall be run and managed by Ispat Cooperative Foundation to be promoted by the Society. A dedicated team of Ex-Members of the Society, Doctors, Technicians, Administrators and Social Workers of the local community shall be co-opted as Directors of the Foundation and shall take care of the day-to-day management and future development of the Hospital. It can also be run and managed jointly with other like minded organizations also, if need be.
